THE 50

Fifty things worth finishing,
and an app that says no.

Disappear for 30, 60 or 90 days and come back with proof. Hold three disciplines at a time: try to open a fourth and it refuses. Works offline, installs on your phone, prints for your wall.

WHY EVERY OTHER ONE FAILS

Stop negotiating with yourself.

Every habit tracker you have downloaded hands you an empty grid and calls it a system. Six blank habit slots. A blank vision worksheet. A blank thirty day tracker. Every one of them leaves the hardest part to you: deciding what is actually worth doing, and deciding when it is done. That is why they get downloaded once and never opened again.

THE 50 makes both decisions, then it holds you to them. Discipline is what is left when motivation runs out, and this is the part that does not need you to feel like it.

WHAT IT ACTUALLY DOES

Four things paper cannot do.

Twenty of the fifty are runs, kept for a stretch of days: thirty days without alcohol, ninety of weights, a year of photographs. Thirty are feats, done the day you do them. The limit applies only to runs, so there is always something you can go and do.

01

It refuses the fourth run

Hold three and the other seventeen runs lock. You just felt it. A printed page can suggest a limit, only software can hold one. Feats stay open the whole time, so there is always something you can go and do.

02

Finishing is earned

You cannot tick something done until its finish line appears and you confirm you could prove it. Friction placed exactly where the lying usually happens.

03

Breaking resets that one

Tell it you broke a fast and it puts that run back to day one itself, and counts how many times. It does not touch the other two, because their record is theirs.

04

The record writes itself

Every finish is dated, with the line you wrote about it. Standing, seals for each closed window, tracks cleared. Earned from what you did, never awarded for turning up.

THE PART NOBODY ELSE HAS

Every one of the fifty has a finish line.

An undefined finish can always be argued away, which is how most of these die quietly. Four of the fifty, exactly as they appear in the app.

12Learn a language until you can hold a conversationFINISHED WHENTen unbroken minutes with a native speaker who was not paid to be patient with you.
21Build one source of income outside your jobFINISHED WHENIt has paid out twice, from two different people, neither of them related to you.
30Publish something with your name on itFINISHED WHENPublic, findable by a stranger, and your real name is on it.
42Thirty days without alcoholBROKEN BYOne drink. Back to day one.

And nine of them cannot be proved alone. The work is still yours. But a language you only speak to yourself is not proof, and a sale with no buyer is not a sale. On those nine, someone has to be there at the finish line. Never for the doing.

WHAT YOU GET

One file that runs, and paper that lasts.

This is software and a print set, not a document. That is why it is $19.99 and not the price of a PDF, and why there is nothing to renew.

THE APP

the-50.html

One file, about 180 KB. Double click it. Phone, tablet or laptop, no install, no account, no internet after download. Add it to your phone home screen and it opens full screen with its own icon.

THE PAPER

Chart & sheets

The wall chart at 18x24, 24x36 and ISO A2, all 300 DPI. The Window, Standards and The Daily Card in Letter and A4. Print from your own record, so what you finished is already filled in.

THE RECORD

Yours, and portable

Your standing, a seal for every window you close, and a card you can share as an image. Export a backup whenever you like. Nothing is uploaded, ever.

SAID PLAINLY

A window has an end, and that is the point.

Choosing solitude and being isolated are not the same thing, and the second one is not good for you. The ten fasts in here are about screens, not people: not one of them asks you to see fewer friends, and you should not read them that way.

If your energy or your mood is falling rather than rising during a window, that is information, not a test of discipline. Close it early and talk to someone. This is printed inside the app too, where it matters more than it does on a sales page.

QUESTIONS

The ones worth answering.

Is this an app I install?

No. It is one HTML file. You download it and open it, the way you would open a document. It runs in the browser you already have, on any device, and it keeps working with no internet at all. If you want it on your phone home screen with its own icon, open it from a web address and use Add to Home Screen.

What happens after I buy?

Etsy gives you the download immediately, no waiting and nothing shipped. You get one ZIP: the app, the wall chart at three sizes, the printable sheets in Letter and A4, a START HERE and a licence. Open the app and the first screen explains it in a minute.

Where does my data live?

On your device, in your browser, and nowhere else. There is no account and no server. You can export a backup file at any time and import it on another device.

Can I really only do three at a time?

Three runs, yes, and that is the point. Three is the number you can actually hold for thirty days. Feats have no limit at all, so there is always something you can go and do today.

Do I have to use the app to use the fifty?

No. Print the wall chart and run it entirely on paper if you prefer. The app just makes the rule impossible to cheat.

Is this a men's thing?

No. Nothing in the fifty is gendered, and nine of them cannot be done without other people.

Does it connect to my watch or ring?

No, deliberately. Connecting to a device would mean an account, a server and a login, and the moment that service changes its terms your download stops working. This file has no account and makes no requests, so it cannot be switched off by anyone.

How long is a window?

You choose 30, 60 or 90 days when you set your three, and the app counts to the number you picked. The end date is the point: this practice is time bounded on purpose, and longer is not better.

Fifty things worth finishing.

Prove it to yourself. One file, yours to keep, and a wall chart that still means something in a year.

No account, no subscription, and no company that can switch it off. Instant download, nothing shipped.
